Thailand tops Singapore’s luxury market
At the last count, 13 Thai celebrities have joined the ranks of brand ambassadors for global luxury powerhouses. Prada, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Bottega Veneta, Bulgari and Burberry are increasingly looking to the Thai kingdom and the Thai muses are the litmus paper of the growing weight of Thailand in the luxury market. According to Jing Daily, the leading digital publication on luxury consumer trends in China, Thailand’s luxury market has actually surpassed Singapore. Citing a research by RTG Group Asia, Thailand’s luxury market is now valued at $4.64 billions, compared to Singapore’s $4.06 billion in 2023. Looking ahead, the gap is predicted to widen as Thailand’s luxury market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.62 percent through 2028, with Singapore at a projected 3.49 percent. That’s not all, because Singapore's retail luxury market is largely driven by tourists visiting its shopping malls, whereas Thailand counts more on locals. But again, things might look even more bright for Thailand with an influx of tourists from China thanks to its visa-free policy. Retail groups are gearing up: after the recent opening of One Bangkok, the new mixed-use district overlooking Lumphini Park with 180.00 square meter of retail area, by the year's end, Bangkok Mall is expected to open its doors. With the inauguration, it will become the largest mall in Southeast Asia and one of the largest in the world.
